Do You Want To Be A Bodybuilding Champion ? The Power Behind The PEN!
July 26, 2007
IT ALL STARTED ON A TYPICAL NOVEMBER MORNING back in nineteen eighty seven. Life was changing for me quickly; I just didn’t realize it at the time. I had been successful in some bodybuilding contests as a teenager, but that was really as far as I wanted to go in the sport. I worked at a local construction company as an architect. Each day in the office started out the same; grab a cup of coffee and sit down at my desk. Being a designer, you either had a mouse, pencil or cup of coffee in your hand.
It all began that morning when I looked over at a sheet of paper that lay next to my computer with these words that read; I AM MR. MICHIGAN 1988. At the time I thought it was funny and threw it away. Two weeks later, I realized I had written it again. Only this time the words were written more than once. I threw it away and forgot about it,again. A few days later, I caught myself doing it, again. I stopped and just shook my head and said, "Could I? No, I’m not doing it again.” I thought, “I have accomplished all I wanted to. But, what if I could win? Are you kidding? Stop kidding yourself Greg!”

Golf Training Principles That Produce Results
July 25, 2007
Time is a precious commodity when it comes to golf. We need to set aside time for practice, play and training in addition to managing our jobs, our families and other priorities and interests. Training should be a compliment to our complete process of development for a better game. Let’s keep things simple when it comes to golf training by focusing on those things that can make a solid difference in the shortest period of time.
Performing too little is the same as performing too much. In either case, this is not a productive approach. Overtraining is a common problem among elite athletes and it isn’t any different for golf. Your body needs an opportunity for repair, remodeling and growth so give it proper rest to see the best results. The opposite effect can also occur which is performing too little. If you follow one of the principles of progressive resistance then you should always use resistance that is greater than what your body is accustomed to.
3 Biggest Benefits of Strength Training
July 25, 2007
Strength training is exercise that uses resistance to strengthen and condition the musculoskeletal system, improving muscle tone and endurance. “Strength training” is used as a general term synonymous with other common terms: “weightlifting” and “resistance training.” Physiologically, the benefits of consistent strength training include an increase in muscle size and tone, increased muscular strength, and increases in tendon, bone, and ligament strength. Lifting weights has also been shown to improve psychological health as well, by increasing self-esteem, confidence and self-worth.
Improved Physical Appearance and Performance
One important result of strength training is increased physical performance. Muscles quite literally utilize energy to produce movement, functioning as the engine or powerhouse of the body. Strength training increases the muscles’ size, strength, and endurance, which contribute to improvements in our work, favorite sports hobbies, and our general day-to-day activities.
Another benefit of a good strength-training program is its effect on our overall appearance and body composition. Which can directly influence self-esteem, self-worth, and level of confidence. Take, for example, a 170-pound man who has 20 percent body fat; 34 pounds of fat weight and 136 pounds of lean body weight (muscle, bones, organs, water, etc). By beginning an effective strength training program, he replaces five pounds of fat with five pounds of muscle. He still weighs 170 pounds, but he is now 17 percent fat with 29 pounds of fat weight and 141 pounds of lean body weight. Although his body weight remains the same, his strength, muscle tone, and metabolism have improved, giving him a fit appearance.
A Few Things Everyone Should Know to Keep Themselves Safe
July 24, 2007
The following are a few thoughts about how to decrease your chances of being a victim of a violent crime. I know a lot of times we focus on the nuts and bolts of a fight and we assume most of us know these things and this information is common knowledge for some of you, but it some times it’s always good to review.
Your assailant has to get close to you. No matter what, in order for anyone to impose his will on you, he has to get next to you. Here are a few ways to get a criminal to select someone else.
1. Always survey the area you are walking.
2. Look for street lights that are out.
3. Look in the cars parked next to you, do you notice anyone sitting in the car parked next to you.
4. Vans with sliding doors that face your car make for a good way to take you out of the area quickly.
5. Look under your car. A few years ago criminals would hid under vehicles, slash the ankles of the owner of the car with a razor while an accomplice would secure the keys, money and valuables of the victim.
Stronger Abs for Golf
July 24, 2007
Everyone wants a firm midsection. For the golfer, it delivers much more than just a coveted physique. Stronger abdominal muscles convert to better balance and a more powerful swing. Your abs are part of a group of core muscles, which also includes the back and glutes. Strength in these muscles are vital to a golfer’s stability and power. Stronger core muscles can also prevent injuries to the hips and back.
The abs play an integral role in the core muscle group. Weaker abdominal muscles can place more work on the other core muscles, therefore reducing overall strength as well as open the door for possible injuries and strain. It’s important as you work to strengthen your abs that you try to exercise in a manner that will have some carry-over to your golf swing.
Regardless of your current fitness level, strength in the core muscle group should always be one of your top goals.
Here are some exercises to help strengthen your abs and better prepare you for your next round of golf.
Reverse Crunch
Instruction:
? Lie on your back with your legs bent on top of a Swiss ball. Find an area of the ball you can grip well with your leg muscles.
Benefit of Pilates
July 23, 2007
One of the main benefits of Pilates is it refreshes your physical and mental well-being. Pilates is a series of controlled movements that unite the body and mind and creates a direct connection to the muscles.
The benefit of Pilates is it helps condition your body without punishing it. It is designed to stretch and strengthen muscle without adding bulk.
The Pilates abdominal exercises require mental concentration along with coordinated breathing beginning in the body’s core (abdomen, back and buttocks) to build a balanced strength and agility in your body.
Joseph Pilates, a legendary physical trainer, developed this exercise system in the 1920’s. Pilates routines can benefit men and women of any age no matter what physical condition you are in.
It was designed for people who recognize the importance of providing a firm support system for the spine. Pilates movement places its focus on the body’s core. It works the deep muscles in the body creating a strong center.
Pilates is more precise movements rather than a lot of repetitions of an exercise. It adds heightened body awareness and control because the mind engages the body during movement. Controlled breathing accompanies that movement.

A World of Infinite Opportunities
July 22, 2007
Many people feel that there is a limited amount of abundance, wealth, or chances to succeed in life. Furthermore, there is a solid belief that if one person succeeds, another must fail.
This might be true, in some cases, such as in a small company or school, where opportunity is limited by management. However, the world is a big place, and there are opportunities created from ideas that help people, and no one gets hurt in the process.
Below are two examples of success that have not taken anything away from anyone:
Danny Thomas: With his promise, prayers, and vision, for St. Jude’s Hospital, he received the help of friends in the Arab-American community to build a fantastic charity. Some of us also believe he received divine help ? I know, I do.
There is much more to this story, but what did this hospital or charity take away from anyone? Aren’t the children who recover from cancer living proof that this idea, and prosperity, is for the pure benefit of mankind? There is no one who is hurt by this, and Marlo Thomas has picked up where her father left off.
